Sample Road Project, Monroe County

The Sample Road Project in Monroe County is an outgrowth of Section 5 of the multi-state I-69 Extension Project connecting Canada to Mexico. The project involved construction of a new interchange at Sample Road along the State Road 37 corridor. The creation of this interchange, now Exit 125 on I-69, and a frontage road system constructed along both sides of the interstate, create an easier flow of traffic and provide connectivity from I-69 to Sample Road and the surrounding area in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Sample Road Project will be completed in two phases, with the second phase currently in its preliminary stages. In Phase 1, which included 35 real estate parcels, Yasmin L. Stump Law Group, PC (YLSLG) prepared the conveyance instruments for the land acquisitions phase and represented the Board of Commissioners of Monroe County, Indiana in the 5 eminent domain cases on the project. YLSLG has handled almost 300 eminent domain cases throughout the entirety of Indiana’s portion of the I-69 Extension Project, spanning properties in Daviess, Pike, Gibson, Greene, Monroe, and Morgan counties.

The I-69 Extension Project’s purpose is to revitalize southwestern Indiana by connecting “an entire region with improved access to jobs, education and healthcare”, according to INDOT. Sections one through five, which connect Martinsville to Evansville, are now open to traffic. The project is expected to conclude in 2024, with the completion of Section six connecting Evansville to Indianapolis.
